Dr. Westlund recently retired as Chaiman of the Department of Music at Northern Kentucky University. He has been a member of the music faculty at NKU since 1976 until his retirement. Prior to that time Dr. Westlund  was Chair of the Department of Music at William Penn College, Oskaloosa, Iowa, and has taught in public schools in Kansas. He holds the B.M.E. from Washburn University, the M.M.E. from the University of Kansas, and the D.M.A. from the University of Iowa. At NKU, Dr. Westlund has conducted the choral ensembles. He is the founder and director of the Northern Kentucky Community Chorus, and has served as president of the Kentucky Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. Dr. Westlund's research has led to the publication of an edition of Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Mass in B-flat, as well as various scholarly articles. He has a lifelong association with church choir work in several denominations and currently directs the choir at St. John's United Church of Christ in Newport, Kentucky.
